DOST Partners with Korean Government to Support Molding Companies Through Mold Tech Facility

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST), together with representatives from the government of South Korea, led the groundbreaking ceremony of the proposed Mold Technology Support Center (MTSC) in Cavite last week, October 30.

The establishment of the facility is aimed at helping molding companies in the Philippines become more competitive and train their workers on advanced skill-sets in the molding industry.

The MTSC will rise in a Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA)-owned land near the Cavite Economic Zone.

Molding companies are those that make use of liquid or raw materials to manufacture or design products like bottles, plastic containers, molded furniture, plastic toys, mechanical parts, etc.

According to DOST Secretary Fortunato dela Pena, the MTSC will be manned by Filipino engineers, who are currently being trained in Korea. He also stated that all molding companies nationwide are welcome to use the facility.

South Korean Ambassador to the Philippines, Han Dong-man, stated that the Korean government has allotted US$8 million as financial support for the MTSC, which is expected to provide an opportunity to the molding industry to enhance capabilities.

“Mold technology is needed to develop more fundamental technologies,” Han added.

DOST Secretary dela Pena thanked Han for being instrumental in the bilateral agreement of the Philippines and South Korea for joint development in science and technology.
